On the 23rd of October, Saturday, the Singapore Government announced to remove travel restrictions on people from India and five other countries.

The decision to remove the six countries from Singapore’s travel restrictions list was taken in the wake of the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. In Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the COVID-19 pandemic situation is better managed, which resulted in lifting of the restrictions on travel.

The Singapore Health Ministry released a statement which said, “All travellers with a 14-day travel history to Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be allowed to enter or transit through Singapore from Wednesday.” However, travellers from these countries would need to follow strict 10 days isolation and follow stay home notice at provided facilities by the State Government.

The announcement regarding the same with a clarity and new rules were made during a virtual press conference by the Health Officials of Singapore.

Mr. Ong Ye Kung, the Health Minister of Singapore, addressed the press conference and said, “There is no longer a need for strict rules that prevent travellers from these countries from landing here.”

The new rules and ease in travel system for Indian and travellers from the other five countries would be in effect from the 27th of October.

In addition, recently, the Singapore Government allowed no quarantine travel for vaccinated people from 8 countries. The eight countries from where fully vaccinated people could visit Singapore with no quarantine rule are: Britain, the United States, France, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Denmark and Canada.

Meanwhile, as of now, Singapore has reported a total of 1,65,663 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic . The disease has claimed 294 lives so far in the country.
