After the successful vaccination drive against the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19, on the 16th of January, the Telangana Government decided to increase the numbers of centres.

On the 16th of January, the Nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive began with the India made vaccines, Covishield and COVAXIN.

While Covishield is manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII,) COVAXIN is developed by the Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech International Private Limited.

On the first day of the drive, the Telangana Government had 140 vaccination centres and vaccinated 3,962 health workers.

However, after the successful conduct, the State Government decided to increase it to 334 centres with 184 new centres.

The new 184 centres would start functioning from today, the 18th of January.  Nearly 15,000 healthcare workers would be administered the COVID-19 vaccine everyday.  About 30 to 100 persons would be administered the vaccine at each centre.

In Hyderabad, the number of centres have been increased from 14 to 42.

A senior official of the Telangana Health Department said, “Although we have the capacity to vaccinate nearly two lakh people per day, we want to go slow on the process. With the first few rounds seeing no complications and as the beneficiaries get back to work a day after taking the vaccine, more beneficiaries will get convinced about the safety of the vaccine.”

In regard to this, healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses and paramedical staff have already undergone medical check ups.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government decided to increase the vaccination centres in the future.

According to the State Health Department, in the future nearly 1,203 vaccination centres would function in the State.

The Government has targeted to administer all 3 lakh healthcare workers in two or three weeks.

After vaccinating healthcare workers, the State Government would head to the next phase and would vaccinate police officials, revenue and municipal administration officials and sanitation workers in the local civic bodies.

The Government also requested the Union Ministry of Health to supply adequate vaccine doses in advance.

The vaccination drive started at 9:00 A.M., and would continue till 4:00 P.M., on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Stay tuned for further updates.
