The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is preparing to tackle the recently found Black Fungus, scientifically called Mucormycosis in Telangana.

With the recovered cases of the Wuhan virus (the Novel Coronavirus,) the State is witnessing a rising number of Black Fungus cases. The infection is a threat to the ones who recovered from the deadly Wuhan virus. The major reason behind these side effects are the usage of steroid drugs to cure those infected with the Wuhan virus. The steroids help with the breathing difficulty, however the same steroids make the body susceptible to the fungus, which is already in the soil and can be airborne.

Besides Black Fungus, people who recovered from the Wuhan virus are having other side effects like loss of eyesight, swelling faces, complete closure of the nose, swelling of eyes, diabetes and blood pressure issues.

Controlling the spread of the Wuhah virus would indirectly help to contain the increasing number of the Black Fungus cases in Telangana. Regarding the same, KCR, the President of the TRS, conducted a meeting with the concerned officials. During the meeting, which was held on the 24th of May, at Pragati Bhavan, KCR instructed officials to take all the necessary measures to tackle Black Fungus. He wanted them to make separate arrangements, including beds, equipment and medicines, to treat those suffering from the Black Fungus illness.

The Chief Minister directed to triple the number of beds available for patients from current 400 to 1,500 across the State. KCR said, “Patients of both COVID-19 and Black Fungus from neighbouring States are coming to Hyderabad for treatment. Hence, we must make preparations to meet the needs of at least 10 crore population, including about four crore people in Telangana. We cannot avoid providing treatment to patients from other States and hence, we must make arrangements to face any untoward challenges. (sic.)”

With the Chief Minister’s orders, there would be 200 beds at Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital and another 160 beds at the State run Gandhi Hospital. Orders are also being placed for procuring medicines required to treat patients suffering from Mucormycosis.

K. Chandrashekar Rao said, “With the spread of both COVID-19 and Black Fungus, the entire system is in chaos. Under these circumstances, there is no bigger priority for the State government, which will not hesitate to spend on building medical infrastructure even if it has to borrow loans.”

In addition, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi Government also urged the private health sector to treat patients without overcharging them. The meeting also discussed the current situation of COVID-19, imposed lockdown and other issues of the pandemic.
