The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government is mulling to vaccinate people above 25 years old. On the 18th of April, the Telangana Health Minister Eatala Rajender, appealed to the Central Government to provide COVID-19 vaccination for people above 25 years old.
On Sunday, Eatala Rajender addressed the media and said, he spoke to the Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, urging him to include youngsters above 25 years eligible in the COVID-19 vaccine drive. He said, “People above 25 years form the largest group of COVID-19 infections and it is our responsibility to vaccinate them. We are hoping the Centre takes a positive decision on the same.”
In addition, the K. Chandrashekar Rao led TRS Government also informed about the need of more vaccines, as the State is witnessing a shortage of vaccines. In regard to this, the Government of India responded positively and assured stock to be sent by the 19th of April, Monday. According to the State Ministry, about 2.7 lakh India made vaccine doses would reach Telangana.
Dr. Eatala Rajender said, “The vaccine procurement and distribution is under the control of the Centre from the beginning and it is up to them to ensure all States receive their share of vaccines in a timely manner. We have the ability to vaccinate 10 lakh persons per day and have urged the centre to increase our vaccine share.” As of now due to the delay in vaccine delivery and unavailability of COVID-19 vaccine, the immunisation drive came to a grinding halt. Many people who registered for the first and the second doses of vaccines are complaining that they are not able to get the first and second doses.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi is awaiting a response from the Central Government regarding vaccination to people 25 and above 25 years old.
