Telangana Receives 30 Covishield Boxes For COVID-19 Vaccination Drive

Nearly 30 boxes of Covishield shipped by SII to Hyderabad today, the morning of the 19th of January. 

Facilitating COVID-19 inoculation drive in the country, 30 boxes of Covishield vaccine made by Serum Institute of India were shipped from Pune in Maharashtra to Hyderabad in Telangana on Tuesday, the 19th of January as per the official notice by the institute.

On the 16th of  January, Telangana Health Minister Eatala Rajender was supposed to take the first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine.  However, following the guidelines of the Central Government, Mr. Rajender dropped the idea and announced sanitation workers to be administered the COVID-19 vaccine first.

A total of 140 centres have been shortlisted for the distribution of the vaccine.  In addition, the State Health Department organised 184 new centres, where both COVAXIN and Covishield would be given.  There would be seperate centres for both the vaccines, one manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (Covishield) and another by the Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech International Private Limited (COVAXIN.) 

The Central Government stated that the shots would be offered first to an estimated one crore healthcare workers and around two crore frontline workers, and then to persons above 50 years of age, followed by persons younger than 50 years of age with associated comorbidities.
