The Telangana Health Department resumed the vaccination drive against the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) for people above 45 years old, waiting for their second dose.

Due to the shortage of the two India made COVID-19 vaccinations, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government decided to halt the drive for all, including people who are due to take the second dose. The decision to do so was taken by K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana. On the 16th of May, he instructed the concerned officials to halt the drive due to the shortage of vaccines. He also instructed officials to identify super spreaders and provide vaccination to them.

However, on the 25th of May, KCR asked the officials to resume the drive for administering the second dose of COVID-19 vaccination for people above 45 years of age.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) released an official notice regarding the same. The notice read, “The CM has asked people who have taken the first dose of COVID vaccine and are eligible for the second one to walk into the government vaccination centre nearby and get it. (sic.)” The release was issued on the night of the 24th of May, and the drive resumed from the morning of the 25th of May.

It is to be noted, with this, the vaccination drive in the State was on halt for nearly a week, from the 16th of May to the 24th of May. Also, the vaccination drive has resumed only for people above 45 years who are due with their second dose of vaccination against the Wuhan virus. The vaccination drive for the remaining, which includes, people between 18 to 44 age groups and people above 45 who are yet to receive their first doses, is yet to begin.
