Amid confirmation of no shortage of oxygen supply, three Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients lost their lives.

On the 9th of May, three COVID-19 patients died due to shortage of oxygen at King Koti Hospital, Hyderabad.

According to sources, the oxygen tanker which was supposed to come from Jadcherla got delayed as the driver of the tanker forgot the route map. As a result, three patients died due to the lack of oxygen. The family members of the victim criticised the hospital and staged a dharna in front of the hospital. They demanded the authorities to take strict action against the responsible persons.

Meanwhile, Dr. Rajendranath, the Superintendent of the Hospital, said, “The tanker carrying oxygen arrived late to the hospital. In the meantime, we provided oxygen from the buffer stock. Oxygen cylinders and oxygen concentrators were provided to the patients as the oxygen flow reduced for a brief period. When the filling of the oxygen was happening for around 30 mins, the flow of oxygen had reduced. Three patients in the ICU died during this period. The deaths may not be totally due to the gap of oxygen supply.”

The incident was reported days after Somesh Kumar, the Telangana Chief Secretary confirmed enough oxygen supply in the State for COVID-19 patients. He also assured, oxygen beds, necessary drugs and other required medical facilities for patients. In addition, the Telangana Government led by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) said, the State is witnessing a decrease in daily cases and the COVID-19 situation is under control.

On the other hand, in the past 24 hours, Telangana reported 4,976 patients have tested positive across the State out of a total of 55,358 samples tested.

The total number of positive cases has reached 4,97,361 in Telangana.
