The Union Health Ministry, on the 21st of December, called for an emergency meeting. 

The meeting was called after the spread of mutant coronavirus strain in the United Kingdom (U.K.)

According to sources, over 16 million Britons would be required to stay home for Christmas this year. According to the U.K., Government, the new strain of the deadly virus is more dangerous and has 70 % more severe affect including rapid transmission.

The Union Health Ministry and the Joint Monitoring Group (JMG discussed the issue of panic spread over a new mutant strain of Coronavirus said to be “out of control” in the U.K.

According to the United Kingdom Government, the new mutated strain of the Novel Coronavirus has a higher rate of transmission than other variants.

The concerned authority said the new variant b is spreading rapidly across London and South East England.

After the news of the new Coronavirus strain emerged, several European nations imposed air travel ban on the U.K. Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Italy have all halted their flights.

On the 21st of December, The European Council is expected to hold talks and coordinate their further actions by the European Union (EU.)

In regard to this situation, the Health Ministry of India would conduct the emergency meeting

The JMG meeting would be headed by the Director General of Health Services (DGHS.)

World Health Organisation’s (WHO) India representative Dr. Roderico H. Ofrin, who is also a member of the JMG would also be a part of today’s meeting.

The JMG, which was formed by the Central Government to review the global and Indian situation after the outbreak of the virus.

The JMC during the meeting would provide recommendations on technical matters to the Union Health Ministry.

Dr. Mohan Gupta, the Ex Director of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR,) in an interview said, “It is quite possible that we (India) are already having this variant.” He further said, “Due to this what will happen is the issue.”

Mr. Gupta said, if the mutant strain of Coronavirus appears in India, the transmission and the effect after that would be an issue.

The Union Health Ministry also urged people of India to be cautious of the Novel Coronavirus, especially after the new strain which was found in U.K.

Currently, India crossed 10 million positive cases of COVID-19 infection. However, of the total cases, active cases are below 4 lakhs, whereas nearly 94 lakh people recovered.

The recovery rate of India from COVID-19 is nearly 96%.
