After Telangana, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Assam, the Madhya Pradesh Government also announced not to vaccinate 18+ people as of now.

On the 30th of April, Shivraj Singh Chauhan the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh said, “The vaccination drive against COVID-19 for people aged 18 to 45 will not be beginning from the 1st of May in Madhya Pradesh as vaccines are not available.” Mr. Shivraj Singh Chauhan addressed a press conference on the 29th of April and highlighted the vaccination shortage in the State. He said the Madhya Pradesh Government had spoken to both the COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers in India, the Serum Institute of India (SII) and the Bharat Biotech International Private Limited regarding the same. The manufacturers informed the Shivraj Singh Chauhan Government about the vaccination and said currently they would not be able to provide doses of the vaccines.

After the confirmation from the manufacturers, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, “The campaign to vaccinate the youth above the age of 18 was supposed to start on May 1. For this, the Government had issued orders for both COVAXIN and Covishield but we are informed that they will not be able to give us the dosage. Hence the vaccination program will not be starting on May 1.” He further added, “Hopefully, we will be getting vaccine doses around May 3. After that we will give the final shape to the drive for the young people.”

However, the vaccination drive for people above 45 years would continue as it is. The drive would continue under the Central Government programme and vaccination to people above 45 years would be given free of cost.

Concluding the press conference, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shivraj Singh Chauhan urged citizens not to panic and said that the vaccination drive would begin as soon as doses were available. He said, “We know that there is a limit to the production. As soon as they are available to us we will get the vaccine dosage. Be patient, there is no need to panic.”

Recently, the Madhya Pradesh Government also announced to provide free vaccination to all citizens between the age of 18 to 45 for free of cost.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh currently has 5,50,927 positive cases of COVID-19.
