The Ministry of Human Resource Development granted an amount of Rs. 242 crores to Telangana’s state universities. The amount was granted under phase two of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA.)

The Telangana Government sought funds for the development of infrastructure, technology and digital initiatives of government institutions. In the 14th RUSA Project Approval Board’s meeting, Telangana submitted a report for sanctioning funds, which was approved.

The sanctioned fund should be used precisely for the betterment of the State in the field of education. Universities such as Osmania University (OU) and Kakatiya University (KU) were given a fund of Rs. 107 crores and Rs. 50 crores respectively, while the Telangana University and Potti Sriramulu Telugu University were both given Rs. 20 crores each.

According to sources, the Osmania University and Kakatiya University will plan for new research centres and digital initiatives, whereas the Telangana University and Potti Sriramulu Telugu University will focus on the reconstruction and renovation of the roads and infrastructure of the premises.

Apart from these institutions, the Project Approval Board gave Rs. 2 crores to a few colleges and also approved a model degree college in Khammam district. The colleges provided with Rs. 2 crores each are Sri Uma Maheshwari Government Degree College in Kondanagulla, Nagarkurnool and Singareni Collieries Women’s Degree College in Bhadradri Kothagudem.
