On Tuesday, Hyderabad police booked veteran Telugu actor Chalapati Rao for allegedly making offensive statements against women. The police complaint was filed at the Saroornagar police station under Rachakonda police Commissionerate. The initial comment was made by the social worker, D. Kalpana Kumar of Bandlaguda.

On Sunday, at a film function in Hyderabad, the actor made derogatory comments against women. He has now been booked under 354A (4) – making derogatory remarks and 509 – insult to the modesty of a woman, of the Indian Penal Code.

Famously known for his villain roles in the past four decades, Chalapathi Rao allegedly remarked that women were only fit to pleasure men in bed.

On Sunday, at the audio launch of Naga Chaitanya’s forthcoming Telugu film, Rarandoi Veduka Chuddam was where he made the comment.

Two anchors went around talking to VIPs regarding the film. They approached Chalapathi Rao and asked him if girls are a disturbance to mental peace, which is also the tagline of the movie.

To which Chalapathi responded, “What can I say if you ask like that? Women are not disturbance to peace. But, are useful to sleep with.”

Rao later used social media to convey an apology and clarified that he respects women.

Nagarjuna from the film reacted to the comment and said, “I always respect women personally and in my films. I definitely do not agree with Chalapathi Rao’s derogatory comments.”
