Alia Bhatt has never been afraid to speak up about controversial topics in the industry, and it was no surprise when she addressed the issue of nepotism in Bollywood. Though Kangana mentioned no names while talking about nepotism, it was assumed that she was speaking about Alia Bhatt who is Karan Johar’s favorite newcomer in the industry.
The star kid Alia Bhatt, was quizzed about the same at a promotional event of her next film with Varun Dhawan in “Badrinath Ki Dulhania.” The actress took a strong stand and said that “I think a star kid can get that first film due to nepotism. But to constantly get films just because you belong to a filmi family, is not possible. I don’t want to take any names, but there have been many examples of sons and daughters of lineage who have come and gone without achieving anything. What about that? Eventually, people come to see you as an actor and not because your family is famous, and you can’t fool them.”
Alia also went ahead and said how her family had no involvement in carving a niche for her in the Indian Film Industry. She said, “I am aware people do struggle to make a mark in the industry, but it’s not right to blame nepotism. I didn’t plan my birth in the Bhatt family. I can’t change that and today, I am successful not just because my family is famous, but also because I have worked hard and you can’t take it away from me.”
Alia entered Bollywood with “Student of The Year” alongside Varun Dhawan and Siddarth Malhotra. She was not lauded for her acting skills and was criticized for being just another star kid trying to make it big in Bollywood. But Alia shocked the audience and critics alike when she donned a de-glam avatar in her second movie “Highway” and blew away the audience with her acting chops. After “Highway” Alia Bhatt’s career has been on a continuous upward journey, lauded by both the audience and critics alike.
