Bollywood Actress Kangana Ranaut Demands GoI To Take Away Padma Shri From Karan Johar

On the 18th of August, Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut took to Twitter and demanded the Central Government to take back the Padma Shri award from Karan Johar.

Through her verified Twitter handle named Team Kangana, Kangana Ranaut said, “I request Government of India to take KJO’s PadmaShri back, he openly intimidated me and asked me to leave the industry on an international platform, conspired to sabotage Sushanth’s career, he supported Pakistan during Uri battle and now anti national film against our Army.”

The tweet was in reference to Flight Lieutenant Srividya Rajan, who was Gunjan Saxena’s coursemate at the Udhampur Airforce base in Srinagar.

Highlighting some facts about the first female IAF pilot and guidelines at IAF, Kangana Ranaut said it was not Gunjan Saxena but Rajan who was the first woman to fly to Kargil.

Pin pointing a scene from the movie, Kangana said “A scene, where a female IAF trainee pilot is asked to arm wrestle with her male counterpart to prove that she is fit for the Air Force is false.

The tweet also mentioned the film had twisted the facts about Gunjan Saxena.

This is not the first time Team Kangana took a dig at recently released Gunjan Saxena- The Kargil Girl, and its producer Karan Johar.

On the 16th of August, Kangana Ranaut slammed Janhvi Kapoor’s film as an insult to IAF.

It’s not just Kangana, but several others have also attacked the film claiming it to be an insult to the Indian Air Force (IAF.)

Social media users trolled the filmmaker for the gender bias portrayed in the film, which is based on the first Indian Air Force woman pilot Gunjan Saxena, who was part of the 1999 Kargil conflict.

Recently, Dhiraj Kukreja, a retired Air Officer Commanding in Chief of Training Command, who trained the batch of women pilots in the transport stream back in 1994 wrote to the Censor Board and Netflix about the negative potrayal of IAF through the film.

In his letter, Dhiraj Kukreja wrote, ““In the aim to glorify the screen character of ”Ex-Flt Lt Gunjan Saxena”, Dharma Productions presented some situations that are misleading and portray an inappropriate work culture especially against women in the IAF.”

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is a recent release of Bollywood on OTT platform Netflix.

The film has been directed by Sharan Sharma and produced under the Dharma Production banner.

Stay tuned for further updates.
