After Priyanka Chopra’s portrayal of Mary Kom in Oomung Kumar’s biopic of the same name, her next biopic venture will be playing the late astronaut Kalpana Chawla. Kalpana Chawla was the first Indian woman astronaut who tragically lost her life in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster in 2003. Her achievements will be put on the big screen for the world to see with the direction of newcomer Priya Mishra.
The debutante director said, “I have been working on it for the past seven years. A new production banner will back the project. I was last heading a TV channel creatively and post 2011, quit to pursue film making. This is one of the two scripts that I have written.” The new production banner is said to be Getway according to a source.
Priyanka is said to be working with the production team and they have even finalized on the script. Priyanka Chopra is back in India after completing the shooting of Quantico Season 2. The actress is also in full swing promoting her debut Hollywood movie Baywatch.
Priyanka has been working hard in the US with her lead role in Quantico and her villain role in Baywatch. This would make the Kalpana Chawla biopic a likely worldwide success. This will be Priyanka’s first Indian film after Prakash Jha’s Jai Gangaajal, last year.
This will not be the only astronaut film, Aamir Khan will be playing Rakesh Sharma in Saare Jahan Se Achha and Sushant Singh Rajput in Chanda Mama Door Ke alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
