Urmila Matondkar, a former member of the Indian National Congress (INC) joined the Shiv Sena Party in Maharashtra.
On the 1st of December, Ms. Matondkar joined the Shiv Sena Party in the presence of Uddhav Thackeray, the President of the Shiv Sena and the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
Ms. Matondkar joined the INC in March 2019 and resigned in September 2019.
Highlighting the reason of Ms. Matondkar’s resignation from the INC, she cited inaction on the part of key functionaries of the Mumbai INC.
The actress turned politician Urmila Matondkar, contested last year’s Lok Sabha polls on the INC ticket from Mumbai North constituency. However, she lost against the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
Sanjay Raut, the Rajya Sabha member of the Shiv Sena said, “She (Urmila Matondkar) may join Shiv Sena tomorrow. She is a Shivsainik. We are happy that she is joining the Shiv Sena. This will strengthen the party’s ‘mahila aghadi’.”
According to party insiders, the Sena has already proposed Matondkar’s name for one of the 12 Governor-nominated seats in the state legislative council.
However, an official announcement regarding the same is yet to be made.
Ms. Matondkar is said to be an additional resource for the Shiv Sena, especially after her reply to Kangana Ranaut Mumbai Occupied Pakistan comment.
According to the Shiv Sena Party, Urmila Matondkar would be great to put out its messages on a national level.
