Hyderabad Police Register Case Against Tollywood Actress Sri Reddy

Tollywood actress Sri Reddy was booked by the Banjara Hills Police on Friday in Hyderabad. The police stated the actress was preventing the officials from carrying out their duties.

This comes a day after Sri Reddy along with a group of women attempted to assault Srisanth Reddy at the police station. A woman along with Sri Reddy claimed Srisanth Reddy, while promising her a career in Tollywood, allegedly raped her.

Banjara Hills Inspector K. Srinivas explained, “After we registered cases, we called the accused to appear before the police and Srisanth Reddy came to police station in connection with the case.(sic).”

He further added, “When Srisanth Reddy was being questioned by police, Sri Reddy and other women gathered at the police station and prevented (the) police from performing (their) duties by thrashing Srisanth Reddy.”

The police went on to register a case against Sri Reddy and the other women. The case was registered under IPC Section 353 (Assault or Criminal Force to Deter Public Servant from Discharging of his Duty.)

Actress Sri Reddy has been in the news after she began protesting against sexual harassment in Tollywood. Sri Reddy held a protest outside the office of the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce on the 7th of April. She sat shirtless outside the Chamber protesting the casting couch which is a euphemism for sexual harassment.

After the protest, the Movie Artists’ Association (MAA) banned the Telugu actress. However, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took up Sri Reddy’s allegations of sexual exploitation. This resulted in the MAA lifting the ban and announcing a Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CASH,) would be formed and have a meeting once in three months.

Pawan Kalyan was also dragged into this controversy when he was asked about Sri Reddy’s recent sexual allegations. The power star said, “If they want justice, they should go to (the) police stations and the courts, not T.V., stations.” The actress attacked Kalyan resulting in the power star’s fans threatening to rape the actress. The issue settled after Pawan Kalyan released a statement to his fans asking them to stop threatening the actress.
