Boney Kapoor broke down as he accepted the IIFA Best Actress Award for his late wife Sridevi. This year’s 19th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards were held in Thailand.
The 54 year old actress suffered a cardiac arrest in February. Sridevi was attending her nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding in Dubai with her husband Boney Kapoor and younger daughter Khushi. She was awarded with Best Actress for her performance in the crime film Mom.
The producer wept as he accepted the award and his son Arjun Kapoor and brother Anil Kapoor consoled him on stage. Boney said, “I miss her every moment of my life.”
Sridevi’s longtime on screen partner Anil Kapoor said, “She was a true genius. The country, the world and our family misses you.”
Earlier, the 65th National Film Awards honored Sridevi with the Best Actress award in New Delhi.
Sridevi was born on the 13th of August 1963 in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu. She started her acting career at the age of 4 in a Tamil film titled Thunaivan. Sridevi made her debut in Tamil industry but then expanded to Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. Sridevi has received 11 Filmfare Awards and was ranked among the highest paid actors in the 1990s.
In 1996 Sridevi married Boney Kapoor and was blessed with two daughters Janhvi and Khushi. Sridevi is also a stepmother to the actor Arjun Kapoor and his sister Anshula, who Boney had from his first wife Mona.
