On the 13th of April, K. Madhavan was named as the President of The Walt Disney Company India and Star India.
Rebecca Campbell, the Chairman of International Operations and Direct to Consumer at The Walt Disney Company, announced the same with immediate effect. As the new President of the Walt Disney Company India, K. Madhavan would be responsible for the strategy and growth of the Company in India.
The role would also demand an oversight of channel distribution and advertising sales, as well as a thriving local content production business. Currently the local content production is responsible for the creation of 18,000 hours of original content divided into different genres, fiction, non fiction, sports and movies in eight different languages.
Rebecca Campbell said, “For the past several months, I have had the pleasure of working directly with K.M., and have seen firsthand how he has adeptly managed our India business, which has been and will continue to be critical to our global and regional strategy.” She further said, “A skilled leader with an extensive background in media, K.M., has taken our vast Star networks and local content production businesses to new heights despite continued industry evolution and significant challenges due to the pandemic.”
Meanwhile, expressing happiness and pride K. Madhavan said, “I am very proud to have the opportunity to lead the incredibly talented and passionate team we have in India, and to further build upon our strong portfolio of channels and high-quality programming that is a favorite with viewers across the region. We have an exciting journey ahead of us. I am committed to continuing to move our business forward, working more closely together with colleagues across Disney to enhance our global and regional offerings.”
K. Madhavan has been working with The Walt Disney Company India since 2009. In 2009, he was the South Head of The Walt Disney Company in India. Later, in 2019, he served as the Country Manager of Star and Disney India, overseeing the Company’s television and studios business. Under his leadership, the company built a thriving regional entertainment.
In addition, K. Madhavan also serves as the President of the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) and as the Chairman of the National Committee of Media and Entertainment CII (Confederation of Indian Industry.)
Before starting with the entertainment and media business, K. Madhavan made his career in corporate finances and banking.
