In Ooty, a Judicial Magistrate Court issued a non bailable arrest warrant against eight Tamil film actors for their failure to appear before the Court. They were asked to appear before the court for a defamation case filed by a freelance journalist.

The South India Cine Actors’ Association (Nadigar Sangam) held a meeting in Chennai on October 7, 2009. The purpose of the meeting was to condemn a Tamil Daily for publishing an article which tarnished the image of actresses.

M. Rozario, the complainant who is a freelance journalist in Ooty, said that actors who spoke at the meeting should have targeted Tamil Daily which published that article instead of attacking all the journalists of the magazine.

Later on, the court decided to issue a warrant against Suriya, Sathyaraj, Sarathkumar, Sripriya, Vijayakumar, Arun Vijay, Vivek and Cheran. They were asked to appear before the court on December 19, 2011. The actors filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking to dispense with their personal appearance in the court but the petition was dismissed.

The case came for hearing again on May 15, 2017. Judicial Magistrate, Senthilkumar Rajavel issued the non bailable warrant against the eight actors on Tuesday after hearing that the actors did not appear before the court.
