Rajinikanth To Be Honoured With Prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2019 awardees has been announced on the 1st of April. Due to the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19, the 2019 Dadasaheb Phalke Award announcement was postponed. 

The Dadasaheb Phalke is a prestigious award for excellence in cinematic achievement. It is the highest honour named after the father of Indian cinema Dhundiraj Govind Phalke also known as Dadasaheb Phalke. The award was instituted in 1969 in India and includes a Golden Lotus and a cash prize worth Rs. 10 lakhs.

The award is given by the Government of India (GoI) for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema.

Veteran singers Asha Bhosle and Shankar Mahadevan, actors Mohanlal and Biswajeet Chaterjee and filmmaker Subhash Ghai, decided to honour Superstar Rajinikanth with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

The official announcement of the same was made by the Union Minister Prakash Javadekar. He took to his Twitter handle and said, “Happy to announce #Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2019 to one of the greatest actors in history of Indian cinema Rajnikant ji. His contribution as actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic.” He further said, “India every year gives Dada Saheb Phalke award to a film personality. This year this selection has been made by a jury comprising Asha Bhonsle, Mohanlal, Biswajit Chatterjee, Shankar Mahadevan and Subhash Ghai. They unanimously recommended that superstar Rajinikanth be conferred with Dada Saheb Phalke award and we accepted it.”

Megastar Rajinikanth gave more than 160 movies to Indian cinema. He was also awarded the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan Awards in 2,000 and 2016 respectively. Now, Mr. Rajinikanth would get Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

Reacting over the same, Rajinikanth took to his social media handle and extended gratitude. He said, “Immensely humbled and honoured with your greetings and the most prestigious #DadasahebPhalkeAward award respected and dearest Shri

@narendramodi ji. My heartfelt thanks to you and the government of india.(Sic.)”

In another tweet, Mr. Rajinikanth dedicated his award to all his well wishers and his gurus and family. He said, “I thank the Indian government and the honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi for conferring me Indian cinema’s highest honour, Dada Saheb Phalke Award. I dedicate this award to my friend and bus driver Raj Bahadur, who discovered my acting talent and encouraged me, my elder brother Sathyanarayana Rao Gaekwad, who sacrificed a lot to make me an actor while struggling with poverty, my guru K. Balachander, who created this Rajinikanth, producers, directors, technicians, distributors, theatre owners, media, the Tamil people, who have given me my life, and my fans across the world. I thank Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswamy, Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, the opposition party leader M.K.Stalin, my friend Kamal Haasan, national and state politicians, my friends, my friends in the film industry and my well-wishers. Long live Tamil people!
