Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker’s marriage with Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Fahad Ahmed has become a matter of controversy. Inter community marriage has gained criticism from a section of society, including politicians and Hindu leaders in India.
Recently, Ms. Sadhvi Prachi, a leader of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP,) made a controversial remark about the newly married couple, Swara Bhasker and Fahad Ahmed.
In a public meeting, Sadhvi Prachi said, “She should have seen the fridge once before taking such a big decision. It is her personal choice. I have nothing much to say. But what happened to Shraddha can happen to Swara too.”
Citing the brutal murder of Shraddha Walkar in Delhi, Sadhvi Prachi not only criticised the couple but also warned Swara of such a fate for her. It is to be noted, in Delhi’s Chattarpur, a young girl Shraddha Walker was murdered by her live in partner Aaftab Poonawala. In the horrific incident, the accused murdered Shraddha and disposed of her body, which was cut into approximately 56 pieces in various parts of Delhi. He hid the body in his fridge and disposed of the body parts in six months. The incident not only shook the nation but also disturbed communal harmony.
Reacting to the marriage of Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker to a Muslim leader Fahad Ahmed, Sadhvi Prachi further said, “Bhasker has always been against the Hindu religion and that it is no surprise that she has chosen to marry outside her religion.
Ms. Swara Bhasker announced her marriage to Fahad Ahmad on social media platforms on the 16th of February. Taking to Twitter, the Bollywood actress specially mentioned the Special Marriage Act for “giving love a chance.” She wrote that the Act exists and gives people the right to love, choose their life partner, marry and have agency.
