Legendary Telugu actor Gollapudi Maruti Rao passed away on the 12th of December in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Gollapudi Maruti Rao, 80 years old, was admitted at a hospital in Chennai, where he took his last breath. Mr. Rao was suffering from a prolonged illness and died while undergoing treatment for the same.
Born in Vizagnagar, Gollapudi Maruti Rao acted in more than 250 Telugu movies.
Mr. Rao started his filmy career as a screenwriter. He wrote several screenplays and dialogues for many movies. Observing Rao’s acting skills and body language, Kodi Ramakrishna, one of the famous names of Tollywood, encouraged him to act in Intlo Ramayya Veedilo Krishnayya, which became Rao’s debut film as an actor.
Eventually, with time, Gollapudi became one of the top actors of Telugu cinema. His performances in films like Kallu, Samsaram Oka Chadarangam and Intlo Ramayya Veedilo Krishnayya are considered to be some of his most outstanding ones. Soon after his few hit films, Gollapudi Maruti Rao played comic roles and became one of the most talented comedy actors of Tollywood.
Apart from being an actor, Gollapudi Maruti Rao was also an author and wrote a couple of books, novels and plays.
He also worked as a station in charge and hosted a show on All India Radio (AIR.)
The news of Mr. Rao’s demise shocked the people of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh (AP.)
Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, expressed grief over Gollapudi Rao’s demise.
The last rites of Gollapudi Maruti Rao are expected to be performed on the 12th of December.
