In March, for the ninth consecutive day, fuel prices increased making petrol and diesel expensive by Rs 5.60/ liter. 

According to sources, on the 30th of March, Wednesday, Indian cities reported an overall rise of 80-85 paise in petrol and diesel.  In many metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata prices crossed Rs. 100 mark, making fuel prices expensive.

With the new rise, fuel prices in metro cities are: Petrol in Delhi would now cost Rs. 101.01 per liter as against Rs. 100.21 previously diesel rates have gone up from Rs. 91.47 per liter to Rs. 92.27.

In Mumbai, the petrol and diesel prices per liter are Rs. 115.88 and Rs. 100.10 respectively.  In Chennai, petrol will now be sold at Rs. 106.69 and diesel at Rs. 96.76. The price of petrol in Kolkata is now Rs. 110.52 and diesel is Rs. 95.42.

Meanwhile, to protest against the rise in fuel prices, the Indian National Congress (INC) announced the launch, “Mehngai Muft Bharat Abhiyan”.  Under this program, starting from the 30th of March, the INC would conduct rallies and launch marches in different regions of the nation, calling out people, demanding the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to reduce rates of essential commodities, which are skyrocketing especially fuel.

The launched “Mehngai Muft Bharat Abhiyan” would continue till the 7th of April.
