Yesterday the veteran actress Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan also known as Sridevi Kapoor passed away. The 54 year old actress suffered a cardiac arrest. Sridevi was attending her nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding in Dubai with her husband Boney Kapoor and younger daughter Khushi.
A person close to Sridevi’s family confirmed the news, “Yes it’s true. She was in Dubai while some of the other family members came back to India. We hear it’s (a) cardiac arrest.”
Yesterday at around 11:30 P.M., when the news of her demise surfaced, Sridevi’s fans gathered outside her bungalow in Mumbai. Sridevi is regarded as the first female superstar of Bollywood.
Bollywood Actress Priyanka Chopra, one of the first to pay her tributes took to Twitter saying, “I have no words. Condolences to everyone who loved #Sridevi. A dark day. RIP.” Many other actors, actresses’ and politicians took to Twitter mourning her demise and paying their tributes.

Sridevi was born on the 13th of August 1963 in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu. She started her acting career at the age of 4 in a Tamil film titled Thunaivan. Sridevi made her debut in Tamil industry but then expanded to Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. Sridevi has received 11 Filmfare Awards and was ranked among the highest paid actors in the 1990s.
In 1996 Sridevi married Boney Kapoor and was blessed with two daughters Janhvi and Khushi. Sridevi is also a stepmother to the actor Arjun Kapoor and his sister Anshula, who Boney had from his first wife Mona.
Sridevi will forever be remembered for her brilliant expressions and Hawa Hawai dance. She proved to be one of the most talented actresses in the Bollywood industry. Her double role in Chaal Baaz where she plays a timid girl and an outspoken dare devil stole the hearts of everyone in the country. Even after the so called “prime age” of the actress she acted in English Vinglish which added to all her superhit films.
