Saroj Khan, a veteran choreographer of Bollywood, passed away on the 3rd of July. 

Saroj Khan, fondly known as “Masterji”, died in the early hours of the 3rd of July. She died at the age of 71 due to a cardiac arrest.

According to sources, on the 20th of June, Saroj Khan complained of breathing issues and was admitted at Gurunanak Hospital in Mumbai.

The news of Ms. Khan’s demise was confirmed by her nephew Manish Jagwani.

Mr. Manish said, “She passed away due to cardiac arrest at around 2:30 A.M., at the hospital.”

The mandatory COVID-19 test done at the hospital showed a negative result.

Born in 1948, Saroj Khan entered the Bollywood industry as a child artist, later she Shifted to choreography in 1970s.

Saroj Khan’s first Bollywood movie as a choreographer was in 1974, Geeta Mera Nam.

However, years after Sridevi’s Hawa Hawai song got her acknowledgement and fame.

Soon, Ms. Khan became the Mother of Dance/Choreography in India and dance routines like Ek Do Teen (Tezaab,) Tamma Tamma Loge (Thanedaar,) Chane Ke Khet Me (Anjaam,) Dhak Dhak Karne Laga (Beta,) Mere Hatho Me Nau Nau Chidiya (Chandni) and Nagina’s songs.

Ms. Khan won three National Film Awards for Best Choreography in Dola Re Dola (Devdas,) all songs of Sringaram and Yeh Ishq Haye (Jab We Met.) 

Actors like Akshay Kumar, Nimrat Kaur, Madhuri Dixit, Ritesh Deshmukh and others poured their condolences to Saroj Khan’s family.

Ms. Khan is survived by her husband B. Sohanlal and 3 kids.

Saroj Khan’s last rites would be held in Mumbai’s Malad later in the afternoon of the 3rd of July.
