The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) on the 26th of March, announced Tejasvi Surya as a Member of Parliament (MP) candidate to contest from the Bengaluru South constituency.

Tejasvi Surya is the nephew of Ravi Subramanya, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Basavanagudi in Karnataka.

Tejasvi is the Karnataka BJP Youth Wing Secretary and a rising leader of the Party in Karnataka.

The decision of the BJP, which was taken overnight, raised a lot of questions and disappointment among other leaders. The Bengaluru South seat was expected to be filled by Tejaswini Ananth Kumar, after the demise of her husband, Ananth Kumar.

Recently, the supporters of Tejaswini conducted a dharna outside her house, when the BJP denied giving a ticket to her.

After the protest and dharna, the Karnataka BJP recommended only Tejaswini’s name as a MP candidate in Bengaluru South.

The sudden decision of nominating Tejasvi Surya came as a shock to Tejaswini Ananth Kumar. Speaking about the reason behind picking Tejasvi over Tejaswini, a BJP leader said, “Tejaswini is a good candidate, but she is Ananthkumar’s widow. She wanted to claim his legacy. Perhaps, our high command thought that it was not appropriate and has picked young face Tejasvi Surya.”

The supporters of Tejaswini are angry with the decision and want the Party to change their decision and nominate Tejaswini in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Karnataka will contest a total of 28 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which are divided into 2 phases. The Lok Sabha elections in the State are scheduled on the 18th of April and 23rd of April 2019.

The major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections are the Indian National Congress (INC) and the BJP.

The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.

Stay tuned for further updates about the Lok Sabha elections.
