On the 26th of April, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced, it will shortly launch Rs. 20 denomination notes. As a part of the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series, this new note will have the signature of the Central Bank’s Governor, Shaktikanta Das.

“The Rs 20 note will be greenish-yellow in colour. The new banknote has a motif of Ellora Caves on the reverse, depicting the country’s cultural heritage,” said a statement released by the RBI.
As compared to the first notes issued as a part of the Mahatma Gandhi series in August 2001, the new Rs. 20 notes will have a greenish yellow base. Furthermore, the notes will be of size 63 mm X 129 mm and instead of having a motif of Mount Harriet, the new notes will come with a motif of the Ellora Caves.
Other designs include a see through register with the number 20 on it and will come in the Devanagiri script as well. With Mahatma Gandhi’s face at the centre, the words RBI, Bharat, India and 20 will be written in micro letters. Apart from these words, the note will also have a guarantee class, with RBI’s symbol embossed toward the right side of Gandhi’s picture.
On the left side of Gandhi’s face, the note will be embossed with the number 20 as well as the Ashok Pillar emblem. So far, the RBI released new versions of Rs. 10, Rs. 200, Rs. 500 and Rs. 2,000.
The RBI will make an announcement about when the new Rs. 20 notes are going to be rolled out.
Stay tuned for more updates.
