The Defence Ministry of India, on the 9th of March, rubbished the reports about the kidnapping of an Army jawan, Mohammad Yasin Bhat and said he is safe.

The Defence Ministry spokesperson took to Twitter and claimed the media reports are fake and the Indian Army jawan, who has been on leave since the 26th of February till the 30th of March, is safe and at his home.

The Defence Ministry said, “Clarification. Media reports of the abduction of a serving Army soldier on leave from Qazipora, Chadoora, Budgam are incorrect. Individual is safe. Speculations may please be avoided.”

The clarification from the Defence Ministry came a day after the media published reports stating, the Army jawan was kidnapped from his home during his holidays.

According to the media, Mohammad Yasin Bhat, a rifleman in the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI,) on the 8th of March, was kidnapped by a few unidentified militants from his home in Qazipora Chadoora of Budgam district, Jammu and Kashmir.

Yasin currently is posted with the JAKLI Brigade in Dehradun.

The news of the kidnapping led to tension among the Jammu and Kashmir Police, following which, the Police and the Army officials launched a joint search operation. The officials also increased the security on all the Jammu and Kashmir highways.

The State has been on high alert since the 14th of February, after the Pulwama Terror attack was carried out by the Jaish e Mohammad (JeM,) a Pakistan based terrorist group.

The Jammu and Kashmir Government also directed the security officials to ensure there is peace and harmony in the State amidst the tense situation between India and Pakistan.
