Cyclone Mora: Indian Navy Rescues People in Difficulties

The Indian Navy has implemented a major search and rescue (SAR,) operation to rescue people displaced by the Cyclone Mora near Chittagong in Bangladesh.

On Wednesday, the Indian Navy spokesperson said, “INS Sumitra is involved in a major SAR operation which is in progress 90 miles south of Chittagong in Bangladesh and 18 people have been rescued till now.”

Due to the Cyclone Mora, people were blown away from the shore and coastal dwelling units.

One person of the rescued had no pulse or heartbeat so he was revived and is on a ventilator, the spokesperson added.

He also said, “Search and rescue for more survivors is drastically hampered due to the prevailing rough weather in the area.”

Bangladesh Meteorological Department had said that the severe cyclonic storm Mora has moved northward over North Bay and started crossing Cox’s Bazar-Chittagong coast at 6:00 A.M.(local time.) It is likely to move in a northerly direction, said the MeT.

The districts at risk were Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Noakhali, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Lakshmipur, Feni and Pirojpur.
