Cyclone Ockhi Damage Over Night In Tamil Nadu and Kerala

Cyclone Ockhi has caused damage to the Southern parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The heavy storms lead to 8 people losing their lives and 86 fisherman are missing from both states.

The meteorologists explain the Cyclone is moving towards Lakshadweep. At present, the cyclone is hovering about 130 Km West Southwest of Trivandrum. Seven districts across the two states have declared a holiday for schools.

The authorities have evacuated 800 people living in low lying areas of Kanyakumari. Many areas in the Southern parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu do not have electricity.

Six warships and two Coast Guard vessels were deployed to the worst struck areas. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have also deployed two teams for rescue and relief operations in Kanyakumari. NDRF has kept a team of 47 on standby in Kochi if help is needed in Lakshadweep.

Over the next 24 hours, South Tamil Nadu, South Kerala, Lakshadweep and some parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands will experience very heavy rains and thunderstorms. The South of Tamil Nadu is predicted to have stormy winds reaching 65 to 75 Kmph and Northern part of the State will experience gusts of wind up to 50 to 60 Kmph.
