Kathua Rape: Fate Of Accused Juvenile To Be Announced Soon

The fate of the juvenile in the gruesome Kathua rape case will be announced early next week. The Jammu and Kashmir High Court along with the Crime Branch moved a petition to contest the accused is a minor.

The Court will decide if the juvenile’s case will be heard along with the other 7 accused or be tried by the Juvenile Board. The Pathankot District and sessions judge will be hearing the case filed against 7 individuals involved in the brutal rape and murder of an 8 year old girl in Kathua.

A Senior Official explained, “The police has conducted a thorough probe and also carried out medical tests on the accused. The reports suggest his age to be in the 19-23 age bracket.”

The official further added, “We cannot make a witness depose once in Pathankot and the second time before the Juvenile Board. The clarity is important.” the official said.

On the 10th of January, the little girl was kidnapped from near her village and sedated. The minor was brutally gang raped for days by a group that included a teenager and police officers. According to the charge sheet, just before the girl’s head was bashed in with a rock one of the police officers asked the man to wait so he could rape her one more time.

On the 17th of January, the girl’s body was found in the forests. The two police officers involved tampered with evidence and helped the accused. The charge sheet filed by the police revealed the depravity of the crime and the terrifying last days of the innocent child.

The main accused is a retired revenue department official who plotted this gruesome crime. This was in an attempt to scare the Bakherwal nomads and drive them out of the Rassana area. The girl was one of the nomads and lived in a village in Rassana. The other rapists are special police officers Deepak Khajuria and Surender Verma. A total of eight men have been arrested for being part of one of the worst rape cases the country has seen.
