The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) recently accused K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR,) the Chief Minister of Telangana, of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC.)

The TPCC wrote a letter to the Election Commission of India (ECI) in this regard.

The MCC is a set of guidelines enforced by the ECI prior to the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections across India. Every political party must follow the guidelines of the MCC during their election campaigns.

The MCC came into action after the ECI announced the dates of the elections and will continue till the results of the elections are declared.

The TPCC wrote, “The Chief Minister is using the government accommodation – Pragathi Bhavan, as his office-cum-residence. He has been violating the MCC on several occasions, since the 2014 elections. We wish to state that during the course of the biennial elections to the Telangana Legislative Council in 2015, our party filed a complaint that after the MCC came into existence on November 24, 2015, as CM of Telangana, Shri K Chandrasekhar Rao addressed a meeting organised to admit Congress leaders from Khammam district into TRS on November 28 at this official camp office. ECI had promptly issued a notice to Shri K Chandrasekhar Rao.”

The TPCC further asked Rajat Kumar, the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana, to take strict action against the TRS and KCR.

According to the ECI, using government accommodation for election campaigns is prohibited.

Telangana will contest a total of 17 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled on the 11th of April.

The major parties contesting the Telangana Lok Sabha elections are the TRS, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC.)

The results of the Telangana Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
