K.Chandrashekar Rao (KCR,) the Chief Minister of Telangana, on the 5th of April, met Mandava Venkateshwara Rao, a senior leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP.)

On the morning of the 5th of April, Mr. Venkateshwara Rao had talks with Mangati Gopinath and Puvvada Ajay Kuma, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS.) During the talks, Mr. Rao expressed his wish to join the TRS, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Later, in the afternoon, KCR and Venkateshwara Rao had a meeting at the residence of KCR in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.

It is speculated, Mr. Venkateshwara will soon join the TRS and quit the TDP, however, an official announcement regarding the same is yet to be made.

The switching of Venkateshwara Rao could be a major setback for the TDP, whereas, a bonus point for the TRS, which is already leading in terms of the number of MLAs in the Party.

The TRS, which won the Telangana Assembly elections with a majority of 88 seats, is now leading with a total of 100 MLAs, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Telangana will contest for a total of 17 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to be held on the 11th of April.

The major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections in Telangana are the TRS, the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

The results of the Telangana Lok Sabha elections will be declared on the 23rd of May 2019.
