The Election Commission (EC,) on the 16th of April, will announce the commencement of the nomination filing process in Delhi for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Delhi will contest a total of 7 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to be held on the 12th of May and candidates can file their nominations after the gazette declaration.
Ranbir Singh, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi, said, “The notification announcing for polls in Delhi on May 12 would be issued on April 16. The President of India would issue the notification calling upon electors of all the seven constituencies in Delhi and other constituencies that would be going on polls in the sixth phase. The election commission will simultaneously publish a separate notification.”
The filing of nominations will begin at 11 A.M., on the 16th of April and will continue till the 23rd of April.
Though the last date is the 23rd of April, the candidates cannot file their nomination on the 17th of April and 19th of April due to Good Friday and Sunday respectively.
The Returning Officers (ROs) of all the Parliamentary constituencies of Delhi will file the nominations after receiving the necessary documents of the candidates.
Mr. Singh said, “Candidates would have to follow the Model Candidate of Conduct. The returning officer (RO) would give each candidate a kit which has details of the guidelines he has to follow including expenditures (sic.)”
The scrutiny of the applications will be done on the 24th of April, whereas the date for the candidates to withdraw their names from the elections is the 26th of April.
The major parties contesting the Delhi Lok Sabha elections are the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP,) the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
The results of the Delhi Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
