Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 19th of April, defended the decision of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to nominate Pragya Singh Thakur for the Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP nominated Pragya Thakur Singh as the Member of Parliament (MP) candidate from the Bhopal constituency in the Madhya Pradesh Lok Sabha elections.

PM Modi addressed the media and said, “Samjhauta Express verdict came. What came out? Without any evidence, a rich civilization as old as 5000 years, which gave the message of ‘the whole world is one’… You called such a civilization terrorist? To give a reply to all such people, this (fielding of Pragya Thakur) is a symbol and this symbol will cost the Congress dearly.”

Mr. Modi said, to give a reply to everyone who thinks, rich Hindus are terrorist, the BJP fielded Pragya Thakur.

Mr. Modi further took a dig at the Indian National Congress and pointed out Kamal Nath’s case. Kamal Nath is the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and a member of the INC.

During the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, the BJP accused the INC for nominating Kamal Nath for the post of the CM, when he had a murder cases registered against him.

Kamal Nath was alleged to be involved in the 1984 Sikh riots in Rab Rakha Gurudwara, where mass violence took place.

According to sources, Mr. Nath was present on the spot and did not stop the masses. He also witnessed two Sikhs burning alive but, still did not take any action.

Mr. Modi added more such events and said, “Her (Indira’s) son (Rajiv Gandhi) said when a big tree falls, the earth shakes. After that thousands of Sikhs were massacred in Delhi. Was it not the terrorism of certain people? Even after that he (Rajiv Gandhi) was made the Prime Minister. The neutral media never asked any question with regard to that but is asking now.”

Mr. Modi’s statement is said to be an answer for the opposition parties which are trying to defame the BJP for fielding Pragya Thakur.

In Madhya Pradesh, there will be a tough competition between the BJP’s Pragya Singh Thakur and INC’s Digvijay Singh.

Madhya Pradesh will contest a total of 29 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. The Madhya Pradesh Lok Sabha elections are divided into four phases, scheduled on the 29th of April, 6th of May, 12th of May and 19th of May.
