Rahul Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC,) on the 10th of April, filed his nomination to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Mr. Gandhi addressed a roadshow, starting from Munshiganj-Darpipur to Gauriganj, which is the administrative headquarters of Amethi. After attending the roadshow, Mr. Gandhi filed his nomination for the Amethi constituency, which he has represented for the last 14 years.

Priyanka Gandhi, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in charge of Uttar Pradesh East, Robert Vadra and Sonia Gandhi, the Chairperson of the AICC, along with the Party leaders and followers, accompanied Mr. Gandhi till the Collector’s office.

Mr. Gandhi submitted his nomination papers to the Returning Officer (RO) of the Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Rahul Gandhi will contest the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha elections from Amethi against Smriti Irani, the current Textile Minister of India.

The grand alliance of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) refused to form an alliance with the INC and declared, the BSP-SP alliance will not contest from Amethi and Raebareli.

Mayawati Das, the President of the BSP, said, the BSP and the SP will not nominate any candidate from these two constituencies, leaving the seats for Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are the current Members of Parliament (MPs) of Amethi and Raebareli respectively.

There are four Assembly segments in the two constituencies, Tiloi, Gauriganj and Jagdishpur in Amethi district and Salon in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh (UP.)

Rahul Gandhi will contest from two seats, Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and Wayanad in Kerala.

Uttar Pradesh will contest a total of 80 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, divided into 7 phases. The Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha elections are scheduled on the 11th of April, 18th of April, 23rd of April, 29th of April, 6th of May, 12th of May and 19th of May 2019.

The major parties contesting the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha elections are the INC, the BJP and the grand alliance of the BSP and the SP.

The results of the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
