The Supreme Court (SC,) on the 30th of April, conducted a meeting with the Election Commission of India (ECI) to hear a petition filed by the Indian National Congress (INC.)

The petition against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Amit Shah was filed by President of INC, Rahul Gandhi.

According to the petition, the ECI is being biased and supporting the BJP by not taking any action against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP.

Sushmita Dev, a lawmaker for the INC filed the petition of 146 pages and said, “the ECI has one set of rules for Mr. Modi and Amit Shah, the President of the BJP and different rules for the rest.”

The petition alleged the ECI was not conducting the Lok Sabha elections in a fair and just manner and was being completely in favour of BJP.

A bench comprises of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice K.M. Joseph reviewed the petition.

Sunil Arora, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEO) of India along with the ECI officials were also present at the meeting.

Based on the complaints filed by the INC, the SC ordered the ECI to take appropriate action against PM Modi and Amit Shah. The case has been postponed pending further investigation.

The case against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah for violating the Model Code of Conduct will be heard next on the 6th of May 2019.
