16 year old female tech student, Anwara Choudhury died under suspicious circumstances last month. Protests have continued since then by the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP). The TMCP stirred ruckus outside Manik Sarkar’s residence, Chief Minister of the state.

The students from different technical institutes blocked a busy road on Wednesday, in demands to investigate the death of Polytechnic Government Institution, Anwara Choudhury.

Anwara was residing with her maternal uncle in his Pratapgarh house. She died on April 10th after being admitted to G.B.P Hospital due to severe abdominal pains. Anwara’s fellow students have alleged that she was either poisoned or assaulted to death.

It has been alleged that two reports submitted, one by a committee inquiring the gross negligence of treatment of Anwara at the hospital. The second a postmortem examination done after Anwara’s body was exhumed were both not made public.

The information that was being withheld caused the protests to erupt in the city by Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), Nationa Students Union of India (NSUI), and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The groups gathered around the police headquarters demanding the arrest of the accused.

Vicky Prasad, TMCP state president reported on Thursday, “The culprits are being protected by the ruling CPI(M) and the police are being prevented from making progress in the case.”

Security has been increased in the city in sight of the ongoing protests. A rally is being planned by non partisan students of various technical institutes in hope to make a change.
