On the 3rd of May, Nepal President Bidhya Devi Bhandari said the Country is going to start constructing a train linking Kathmandu to India and China within the next two years.

While making the announcement, the President said the first transborder railway between India and Nepal will be planned during the coming fiscal year. With regard to this, Bhandari said, “Railway service will be made operational within the next fiscal year at Jayanagar to Bijalpura and from Bathnaha, India to Biratnagar. The construction of the railway at Bijalpura-Bardibas segment will be completed.”

The project for this railway system was completed after having a detailed discussion with all the neighbouring countries. Discussions were also held with the two nations involved in the project. A detailed project report about the Birgunj-Kathmandu and Rasuwagadhi-Kathmandu railways are going to be prepared soon. The uniqueness of this railway connection lies in the fact that this new line will connect Kathmandu to both India and China.
While announcing the new project, Bhandari also spoke about a plan to generate 500,000 employment opportunities in the coming fiscal year. Nepal hopes to complete the Gautam Buddha Airport by 2019 and the Pokhara International Airport by 2021.
