On the 5th of April, the Supreme Court (SC) refused to hear the urgent listing of a plea asking for a ban on the PM Narendra Modi biopic.

Headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gopal, said, “What biopic? We have not seen it. Perhaps we will watch it over the weekend, then you mention.”

This comes as a major twist in events because the Apex Court earlier said they will hear the plea ban case on the 8th of April. The Court now said the case will come during the regular course of hearing.

Before being heard by the Supreme Court, this case was rejected by the Indore High Court as well as the Bombay High Court. The Bombay High Court rejected the case saying it wasn’t an issue into which they should look and the Election Commission should take care of the matter.

After listening to the arguments of the Opposition, the Indian National Congress (INC,) about the biopic being a propaganda move, the Court said it would expide the hearing and hear the case on the 8th of April.

PM Narendra Modi, the biopic about the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was initially scheduled to be released on the 5th of April. However, because of multiple issues raised by the Opposition, the release was pushed to a further date.

The primary reason for the film to be put under the radar is because of how close the movie’s release is to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) said, it did not review the biopic yet. Listening to all the queries, Prashoon Joshi, the CBFC Chairman, said, “Since there are a lot of queries around the certification of the film, would like to give a clear picture. The film is going through the due process of examination and certification according to the requisite guidelines and is yet to be certified as the process is not complete at this point.”

Once the CBFC and the Supreme Court both review the film, only then will the release date of PM Narendra Modi be announced.

Stay tuned for more updates.
