On Monday, officials arrested the police heading the Crime Investigation Agency in Kapurthala with 4 kgs heroin from his government house in Phagwara.

This was the first major arrest by Special Task Force Captian Amarinder Singh. He assumed this post in March this year and promised to reduce the drug trade in Punjab. Captain Singh also said any police officer found involved in the drug rackets will not be spared.

Amarinder kept up to his promise by arresting Inderjit, the accused. Apart from heroin when the officials raided his flat at the Punjab Armed Police headquarters in Jalandhar, they found an illegal 9 mm Italian made pistol, .38 bore revolver, and 380 live cartridges. Money worth Rs. 16.5 lakh and £ 3,550 in cash was also seized from the apartment.

Inderjit’s personal home in Amritsar was also raided by the officials but they have not yet disclosed if any seizures were made.

Special Task Force chief ADGP Harpreet Sidhu drafted the case for the FIR.

The FIR clearly states Inderjit played a major role in  aiding and abetting smugglers in 2013 and 2014. It also read, “He made recoveries but they are with the motive to obtain illegal gratification from those in custody on the promise of helping them in these cases and later getting some of them acquitted.”
