Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader, Munawwar Hasan Rana, his wife and four children were killed by his business partner, Shaib Khan. The alleged killer, Khan told the police he killed Rana and wiped out his whole family in batches, six murders over three separate days, starting from April 20.

The victim, Munawwar Hasan Rana, was in jail till May 17, when Sahib Khan, made his first move. By this time, his wife and four children had been killed without anyone getting the slightest doubt. Sahib Khan’s last target was Rana.

On the night of May 19, the alleged contract killers cornered Rana. This incident took place in the bathroom of his house in Sant Nagar, near North Delhi’s, Burari. The murderers shot him thrice, killing him on the spot.

After 12 hours, Khan himself called the police and informed them that somebody had shot Rana.

The cops say the cause of this mass murders was a dispute over money and the properties which were worth in the crores.

Rana and Khan acquired six properties together. However, Rana registered all six only in his name. Khan saw this as a betrayal, and wanted to take revenge on Rana by killing him. After Rana,  his wife and the children would inherit the properties,  so, Khan decided to eliminate all of them as well.

Rana was arrested in January and sent to Tihar Jail on rape charges. According to Khan’s disclosure, he took Rana’s wife, Ishrat and her two daughters aged 17 and 18, to Meerut on April 20 in his SX4 car. He shot them dead with the help of accomplices in an isolated field near Daurala village. Khan then buried their bodies and returned back to Delhi.

On April 21, Sahib Khan invited Rana’s two sons, aged 19 and 22, to his office when they called to inquire about their mother and sisters. The sons, Aaqib and Shaqib, were brutally thrashed in the office, and then throttled to death. Their bodies were then dumped into a dry underground tank where the killers poured perfume over the bodies and sealed it with cement. The building was then locked up to prevent anyone from identifying the crime.

Police arrested Khan and his friend Dipak along with the two alleged contract killers, Firoze and Zulfikar.

Police took Khan and his accomplices to the places where he buried the bodies. One along the Meerut-Hardwar highway and the others in Delhi.

Cops and forensic officials have recovered the bodies of Rana’s two sons from a tank in Sahib Khan’s office. The bodies were sent for an autopsy.

The corpses were buried five feet below the ground with salt to make them decompose faster. Forensic officials will exhume the bodies of Rana’s wife and daughters. A DNA test will be conducted to identify them.

After Rana’s murder on May 19, cops decided to question Khan and his friend Dipak, who had allegedly discovered Rana’s body.

“Initially, they claimed that they found him dead when they came to meet him. However, the two gave contradictory answers when questioned separately. They later broke down and confessed to killing Rana and his family over the period of one month,” DCP Narwal said.
