Taliban suicide bombers targeted the convoy of the Afghan police near Kabul which killed at least 40 new recruits, as per the local media. This is one of the biggest attacks on Afghan security forces in recent months. The exact toll, however, was not immediately known.
“We are still investigating the precise nature of the blast, whether it was suicide attack, car bomb or whatever -we do not know it at the moment,” AFP quoted a senior official as saying. The dead included Nepali security guards working for the Canadian embassy.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the first attack targeted a bus carrying police cadets and their instructors. Then, as rescuers and emergency services arrived, the second bomber rammed his car, packed with explosives, into their vehicles, killing dozens.
