A nine month old girl was allegedly raped and killed, on the 19th of June, in Hanamkonda village of Warangal district, Telangana.
According to the sources, Praveen, a neighbour, kidnapped the baby when she was sleeping on the terrace of her home, with her parents.
Praveen took her to an isolated area and allegedly sexually assaulted her. When the baby started crying, he gagged her mouth, due to which she died.
The parents of the victim woke up around 2:30 A.M., found the baby missing and reported the same to the police. With the help of the police, the parents of the victim traced the accused and found their daughter.
Dr. V. Ravinder, the Commissioner of Warangal Police, said, “The child Srihitha was sleeping with her parents and grandparents on the terrace of their house. The assailant climbed up the stairs and abducted the baby. He took her to a secluded location, two streets away, and sexually assaulted her. When she cried in pain, he gagged her.”
He further said, “The child’s parents informed the police that their daughter was missing. They traced the accused and found the baby with him. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was declared brought dead.”
The body of the baby was sent for an autopsy, post which, the reason of her death will be confirmed.
The Warangal Police registered a case against Praveen under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Praveen is under custody and an investigation regarding the case is underway.
