On Friday, the Dairy Minister, K.R. Rajenthra Bhalaji informed to the High Court that the quality of the milk supplied by 3 private companies is not upto standards. He made this statement three days after the Court ordered an interim stay on the Tamil Nadu government, testing the quality of milk of 2 private companies.

Rajenthra Bhalaji said that the milk produced by 3 companies namely, Dodla, Arokya and Vijay dairies were not meeting the required standard.

He also produced the analysis certificate which was issued by the Referral Food Laboratory in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.

As per the report, the samples of milk was tested between July 18 and July 26 and it was found to be of poor quality under the Section 3 (1) (zx) of the Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006.

The quality of the milk does not match the standards laid down under Regulation No. 2.1.1:1 of the Food Safety and Standards Regulations. The tested standard showed the result which is below the minimum prescribed limit.

The three companies have filed a complaint against Rajenthra Bhalaji in the Madras High Court for making allegations without any proof that private milk companies are selling adulterated milk. These three companies have stated in a petition claiming Rs. 1 crore each for spoiling the reputation of the company.

The minister said, “Milk sold by private dealers is definitely adulterated. The milk that is banned in Kerala is being sold in Tamil Nadu according to my investigation.”

The case is adjourned until August 1.
