Unnao Rape Case: CBI Files Second Charge Sheet Accusing BJP MLA Kuldeep

The Central Bureau of Investigation filed its second charge sheet in the Unnao rape case naming BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar as the main accused. Last week the CBI filed a charge sheet naming 5 accused including Sengar’s brother.

The first case filed by the CBI against Sengar books the MLA under charges of criminal conspiracy. The probe agency found Sengar falsely implicated the rape victim’s father in a case. The CBI arrested two of the sub inspectors from the Uttar Pradesh Police in connection with the death of the rape victim’s father.

The victim’s father was falsely booked under the Arms Act in April and put in jail. The father was brutally beaten by the police and died in a hospital. The postmortem showed serious physical injuries on the man’s body caused by sticks.

Earlier, the CBI confirmed the BJP MLA raped the teenage girl at his home last year. The survivor alleged the MLA raped her at his residence while his accomplice Shashi Singh stood guard. After a thorough investigation, the CBI revealed the victim’s allegations were true.

The local police sabotaged the case from the beginning and refused to name the MLA in the charge sheet. This was even after the victim repeatedly named MLA Kuldeep in her complaint.

The CBI took over the investigation and recorded the victim’s statement before the magistrate. The statement was recorded under the CrPC Section 164 where the victim stood by her previous allegations.

A CBI Officer explained the girl’s medical examination was delayed and the vaginal swab was not taken to the forensic laboratory. He further added, “This was all deliberate and in connivance with the accused persons.”

The CBI arrested Sengar and the other accused on the 13th of April. The accused was questioned and the agency has been tying up loose ends. The UP Government handed the case to the CBI after locals rioted against the local police for covering up the case.
