On the 6th of May, two hardcore Maoists and two members from the militia surrendered to the Superintendent of Police (SIP,) Attada Babujee in Vishakhapatnam.

The two  Maoists who surrendered were identified as Golluri Birusu (24) alias Mahesh of Kotipalli village in Malkangiri district, Odisha, and Golluri Ramayya (25) alias Rahul of Nanubaru village in Pedabayalu mandal of Visakhapatnam district.

Out of the two  Maoists arrested, Mahesh was said to be involved in a murder and was wanted for alleged involvement in a series of fires at Munchingput, Chitrakonda and GV Veedhi. According to the police, Mahesh was also involved in several counts of arson and for holding kangaroo courts.

The other  Maoist who surrendered, Rahul, is also wanted for a series of murders committed between the years 2015 and 2017. The four members of the militia who surrendered include Korra Sathibabu (37) Golluri Satyanarayana (19) Korra Ganapathi (40) and Korra Pethro (19.)

While Rahul and Mahesh are hardcore Maoists, the four milita members were primarily involved in distributing food to the Maoists and in mobilising men for meetings. Apart from this, the men also helped in passing posters and in promoting Maoist agenda.

According to the police, the militia were forced to join the Maoists and after working with them for a while, they started getting disillusioned by the group.
