Om Birla, a Member of Parliament (MP) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) is expected to be the next Lok Sabha Speaker.
With the support of approximately 10 political parties in the Lok Sabha, Mr. Birla has the majority of votes to win the election for the Lok Sabha Speaker, scheduled to be held on the 19th of June.
Prahlad Joshi, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, on the 18th of June, addressed the media and said, “BJD, Shiv Sena, Akali Dal, National People’s Party, Mizo National Front, Lok Janshakti Party, YSRCP, JDU, AIADMK and Apna Dal have given the notice to support Birla’s candidature for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker. I have spoken to Congress leaders K Suresh and Gulab Nabi Azad. They have not signed till now but I think they would not oppose Birla’s candidature.”
Om Birla is one of the strongest members of the BJP. He contested the Lok Sabha elections from the Kota constituency and won against Ramnarain Meena with a margin of 2.5 lakh votes.
Although it is clear Om Birla will win the election for the Lok Sabha Speaker, an official announcement regarding it will be made after the election.
Virendra Kumar, the Protem Speaker of the Lok Sabha, will conduct the election for the Lok Sabha Speaker on the 19th of June.
