7.1 magnitude quake strikes Papua New Guinea

A powerful earthquake with magnitude 7.1 rattled Papua New Guinea on Thursday. Officials issued a local tsunami warning and then lifted with no reports of damage. According to the reports of US Geological Survey, the massive quake struck about 150 kilometers southwest of the town of Panguna on Bougainville Island at a depth of 23 kilometers. There were no reports of damage and injuries. It is the fourth quake to strike in the area over the past week.
