After India banned Chinese applications, the United States of America (U.S.A.,) is also mulling to ban Chinese applications. 

Mike Pompeo, the Secretary of the U.S.A., On the evening of the 6th of July, said, the United States is thinking to ban Chinese applications including TikTok. 

Mr. Pompeo said, “I don’t want to get out in front of the President (Donald Trump), but it’s something we’re looking at.”

The decision was considered for discussion after the United States lawmakers raised national security concerns over TikTok and other applications usage in the Nation.

The statement of Mike Pompeo came after the Indian Government banned TikTok application.

Besides the U.S.A., the Australian Government is also planning to ban the social media application TikTok, which is originally developed in China. 

Meanwhile, the social media platform, TikTok is trying to defend their features and take a stand on the ban.   In regard to this, a spokesperson of TikTok said they are mulling to exit Hong Kong market soon.

The spokesperson said, “In light of recent events, we’ve decided to stop operations of the TikTok app in Hong Kong.” 

The decision was taken after the Chinese Government imposed new law in regard to national security.

According to the law, secession,subversion, organization and perpetration of terrorist activities, and collusion with a foreign country is a criminal offence. 

Under the National Intelligence Law of 2017, the Chinese Government has authority to govern all tech companies based in China or are under Chinese ownership. The law mandates all businesses to share any and all information asked by the Chinese Government.

Launched as TikTok in 2018, the application witnessed 2 billion downloads in just 2020.
